Something that I thought I might talk about is, making sure that the plus size clothes you are looking at are in fact actually “plus size” clothes. What some designers do is take their “skinny” styles and patterns and use them to make the same shirt in a bigger size. Does that make sense? What I am trying to say is that that pattern was made for a size 4, not a size 14. It may seem like no biggie, but what happens is the neckline gets lower, the overall length gets longer and the arm holes are too tight. I’ve had this experience when looking at juniors clothes. The plus size looks JUST like the cute tiny t shirt, but once i attempted to put it on I noticed my,lets say ‘plump’, arm wouldn’t quite fit through the arm hole. Arrrggg! Nothing can make you feel worse than not being able to fit into the largest size available.

So ladies, save yourself the agony and heartache of buying clothes that just plain don’t fit. Instead find clothing lines that are made specifically for curvy ladies. The patterns they use are unique to your curvy bodies. This being the case you are more likely to find several posh outfits that fit, as compared to maybe one or two. For example I came across this really nice site called “missphit.com”. They have very cute, sophisticated, and playful clothes that are pretty good price as well. I have mentioned this before, but torrid.com has great “teen” fashions as well and their clothes a tailored to plus size women.

This is another classic example of how plus size women need to embrace their uniqueness and buy clothes that FIT their bodies. This is a booming market and that means more options that we will have coming our way. Another great idea is to check out stores websites and under their “about us” page they will usually give details about the quality and process they use to create their clothing. Compare different fabrics, cuts, and styles. Hopefully after reading my previous articles you have learned some helpful hints, that can help you discover your own style and tastes, in a world of so many options.

Thank you for reading, and making any comments about this page, and I really hope to hear some of your own personal experiences with shopping for designer plus size women’s clothing. And remember: Don’t bother with the “small” stuff, stick with the “plus size” stuff.

In this article I want to talk about something that makes every woman cringe…yes BRAS. They are either too small, too big,too old, too uncomfortable, and just plain too confining. But, none the less they are essential to womanhood. Being a plus size lady usually, not always, but usually means you are well endowed in the chest area. This means it is super important to find a bra that fits you, and not just give up and find the largest sports bra you can find. No, you need to do some searching to find the perfect fit for YOU.

For example I recently found that my bras were not covering as much as they should be. I had boob popping out of every side. After having gotten up the guts to just do it, i went to Lane Bryant and looked over their selection. I was wearing at the time a 40DD, and so i decided to try a 40DDD. Now the idea of this made me a little irritable, none the less i trekked on. Once in the dressing room, i tried on my bra and found that the band was too tight. A well fitting band should be able to comfortably fit while being clasped in the middle row.I felt like Goldilocks with one too loose and one too tight. So, I sucked it up and went up another size.Yes, 42DDD. And do you know what? It fit like a glove. And I felt so empowered and good about my figure that I bought 2.

Lane Bryant is defenitly an awesome place to find Plus Size bras, and underwear. Look for something that will support you, cover you and most of all make you feel glamorous. You don’t need to spend tons of money on undergarmets, and you don’t have to buy “grannie pannies”. You can find a whole array of colors, shapes, patterns and even some sexy lingerie. There are many online stores that cater to us, also try looking for a plus size clothing store near you. Ask around. The more you find, the more options you will have.Remember to have fun, loosen up, and have a sense of humor. Not everything will fit, not everything will be affordable, but you will find a great fit. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for a bra fitting. It only takes a second, they do it on the outside of your clothes, and no one will judge you. It will give you a good place to start.

Designer Plus Size Clothing is here to help “support” you. get it? “Support” you. awww forget it.

In my last post I talked about myself and how I came to find that there were so many options out there for a plus size gal. In this post I want to talk about what styles would look best on your figure. First there are the basic body types:

1.The Hourglass- this body shape is probably the most proportioned body type, with wider shoulders and hips and a defined waistline.

2. The Apple- this shape is wider in the shoulders and bust area, and then tapers down through the hips and thighs.

3. The Pear- this is basically the opposite of the Apple shape.Smaller in the shoulders and bust, filling out in the hips and thighs.

Of course not all of our bodies fit into these categories, but they can be useful as a guideline when shopping. In my experience the most crucial time to use these guidelines in when dress shopping, since a dress (usually) covers all the major parts of the body. For example if you are a “pear” you would want to avoid the dresses that accentuate the hips and thighs or dresses that are loose and flouncy on top. You would be most pleased in a cute dress that was “a little” snug on top to make your”assets” pop. Making sure that the bottom is full and sexy. This same principle applies to the “apple” shape gals, yet in reverse. Remember you want something that flatters the wider parts yet accentuates the smaller parts. “Hourglass” figures (this is my shape) can be tricky at times. For example, you most likely have an ample bosom so you NEED to make sure the girls are secure yet not smushed. Next look at your hips. Is the dress too baggy in this area? Is it way too tight? Make sure you’re comfortable. Now the waistline is tricky, because if the bust and hips fit, most likely the waist is a little loose. Right now a really flattering trend for this shape is the Secretary style dresses, this is because they are usually worn with a simple black belt ( very essential for the hourglass).

So there you are, some hopefully helpful guide lines on what will most flatter your body shape when going dress shopping. Tops are kind of self explanatory. But do remember if you are busty always make sure your top FITS your breasts, everything else can be altered. Jeans need to fit your hips, butt and thighs, but also excentuate your legs. Avoid tapered denim if you are a “pear”, instead do a wide leg jean. Avoid flare if you are an “apple”, look for a boot cut leg. Avoid tapered or straight leg if your are an “hourglass”, instead you would be more flattered in a flare, wideleg or boot cut leg.

Ladies, you can look confident and glamorous in designer clothing, just don’t be expect to be able to fit into everything out there. If something doesn’t fit, that doesn’t mean you are abnormal, it just means that cut or style is not made for your body shape. Keep looking and i guarantee you WILL find that perfect fit.
